Ask the Pro: Can I exercise every day?
By: Eric Su, Certified Personal Trainer & TRX instructor at Ackerman SFC
Yes and no. The reason for yes comes down to a few factors. These include workout intensity, how you feel, and which area was worked on. With low intensity workouts like light weight strength training or walking, one can do these activities every day. On the other hand, if the intensity is very high, it may be best to take a day off between workouts. The only way to workout the next day after a high intensity workout is to work on a different area of the body or focus on an alternative workout. What this means is that if you did TRX one day then you can think about doing yoga the next day.
Remember that overtraining can occur if we do not allow our bodies to recover from workouts. So, get around 7-8 hours of sleep per night and be sure to properly fuel your body so that your body can rebuild and repair from your workouts too.
In short, watch your intensity, how you feel and what you worked on the day before and you can workout every day. If you feel you need to rest to recover and rebuild, then do that. You want to avoid overtraining.
