Ackerman SFC Reopening Plan for Phase 4: Revitalization

Ackerman SFC is introducing a new program, Fit & Play Child Drop Off! Staff will provide your child with an organized, safe, and fun environment that is health and wellness orientated. Individual games, activities, and crafts will be lead by staff, allowing children to socialize and stay active while following Restore Illinois guidelines. Pre-registration is required and limited to 10 children, ages 3-6, per time slot. Drop off and pick up time is strict, and all children must be potty trained and wear a face covering during their Fit & Play time. This program is free for Ackerman SFC members. Learn more >

UPDATE: June 25, 2020

Ackerman SFC staff is excited to welcome you back to the facility beginning July 6, 2020, as allowed under Phase 4: Revitalization guidelines within the Restore Illinois Plan. While in Phase 4, modified operations and protocols have been put in place prioritizing the safety of our members and staff including frequent disinfection, an increased number of hand sanitizer stations, distancing of equipment, daily wellness checks for staff and required face coverings for all staff and  patrons when in common areas (not while exercising and active).

Fitness Center

Equipment has been spaced to comply with social distancing guidelines. Cleaning and sanitation procedures will be in place and implemented between each member use. The fitness center will resume normal hours of operation beginning July 6th:

Monday to Thursday: 4:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Friday: 4:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday: 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Ackerman SFC Members will continue to be able to utilize Spring Avenue Recreation Center (SARC). Due to the limited capacity of the SARC facility, reservations will be required. Please contact Spring Avenue RC to reserve your time. 630-858-2462.

Indoor Walking/Running Track

The track will open for up to 15 members at one time beginning July 6th. Social distancing must be practiced on the track. Track hours match the fitness center hours listed above. If, there is a wait, 40-minute limit from the time you started. Special Senior (60+) Member’s Hours M, W, F 7:00 am-9:00 am

Group Fitness

Both indoor and select outdoor fitness classes will be offered utilizing the exterior of the facility, gym, and fitness studio beginning July 6th. All classes will be socially distanced and limited to up to 35 participants depending on location. To view the current class schedule, please visit: fitness. Class participants are asked to bring their own exercise mats and towels, to each class, as these high-touch items will not be available.

Personal Training

Childcare will not initially be available during Phase 4. As additional information and guidance becomes available to safely open the childcare facility, those guidelines will be established.  Members will be apprised as additional information becomes available. Indoor Rock Climbing

The Ackerman Alps indoor rock wall will remain closed initially during Phase 4.  As more guidelines are released, Ackerman SFC will determine how to safely open the rock wall.

Open Gym, Turf, and Pickleball

Open gym and turf will not be available initially during Phase 4. As we move further into the phase, staff will reevaluate open gym and turf and do so when able.

As a reminder, Ackerman SFC members were not charged membership fees in May and  June. Monthly membership charges will restart on July 8th, and you will be charged in according with your normal charge date. Some members may not  be ready to resume working out yet, if you would like to place your membership on hold, or make a modification, please contact Stacey Lim at or (630) 317-0130.

Safety Measures 

Ackerman SFC has put the following measures and protocols in place:

  • Face coverings will be required of staff and required for members when in the common areas or when 6-feet of social distancing cannot be maintained. Face coverings can be removed once at exercise station of choice or when participating in a class or training session. If you have a medical condition that limits your use of PPE please inform the ASFC staff during arrival.
  • Patrons will be required to self-assess using these questions prior to coming to the site.
  • Social distancing rules – keeping employees 6 feet or more apart from each other and members of the public always possible as well as members from each other  
  • Added hand sanitizing stations throughout the facility 
  • Frequent disinfection of surfaces and equipment routine 
  • Reduced customer capacity 
  • Staggered group fitness class
  • Participants need to provide their own exercise mat and towel in fitness center and during group fitness classes
  • Identified ingress/egress   
  • Sneeze guards at front desk 
  • Daily self-wellness checks procedure for staff 
  • Process for handling potential exposure to COVID-19 and a potential COVID-19 illness at work
  • Minimize congregating in common areas
